Résumé

Numerical and experimental investigations have been carried out for wavy liquid films flowing on a vertical wall. The present numerical simulation based on a finite difference method, in which a simple modification is proposed, gives accurate results. The wave propagation patterns have been classified into three categories from experimentally and numerically obtained wave motion. Enhancement mechanisms of heat and mass transfer by waves have been clarified from numerically obtained temperature and concentration fields in the wavy film. Thinning the film at wave trough and circulation flow generated in a big-amplitude wave enhance the heat transfer to the wall. The circulation flow also enhances the mass transfer on the film surface. The enhancement rates depend on wave frequency and have a maximum at a certain frequency. Larger Prandtl number and larger Schmidt number yield higher enhancement for heat and mass transfer, respectively.
