Résumé

Melt convection during the crystal growth process seriously affects the crystal quality. Therefore, the control of melt convection becomes important. For this purpose, we considered the utilization of high frequency magnetic field to control the natural convection in the FZ silicon melt which was heated by radiation on the earth, where the buoyancy and the Marangoni forces were acting simultaneously, and numerically investigated the effect. The results reveal that the high frequency magnetic field has the damping effect on the melt convection, and is useful to control the melt convection. The intensity of melt convection is decreased with applied electric current density up to certain value. Beyond this value, the convection intensity is increased drastically with counter direction due to the strong electromagnetic force. In addition, the intensity of upper convection cell is slightly increased due to the buoyancy force and the flow and temperature fields become asymmetric respect to the upper and lower region. The impurity distribution in the crystal is also affected by the melt flow and it becomes flat respect to the radial direction at an adequate intensity of the high frequency electromagnetic field.
