Résumé

The forced upflow of gases heated in circular tubes is studied by operating in the low Reynolds number range where both laminarizing flows and essentially turbulent flows may occur. Numerical solutions for the property-coupled, internal boundary layer equations governing this continually developing flow-predict that buoyant forces improve heat transfer performance, but experiment demonstrates they can inhibit heat transfer in turbulent flow.
