Résumé

A theory for radiative transfer in a turbulent medium with gaussian properties has been applied to a statistically uniform path and also to a turbulent jet, and compared with measurements of radiation in the 4.3 µm CO2 band in a hot jet from a tunnel burner. It is shown how the transmittance and the radiance and their intensities of fluctuation are related to the intensity and scale of the turbulence and to the optical thickness. Turbulent mixing renders a flame more transparent than would be calculated from its time averaged properties.
