Résumé

The Landau method is used to determine the Nusselt number as a function of Rayleigh number for various values of the Taylor number. To use the Landau method, the Stuart shape assumption and the solutions to the linearized stability problem are required. For this reason an exact solution to the problem of thermal instability of a layer of fluid heated from below is obtained as a function of rotation rate and characteristic Rayleigh number. The values of the characteristic Rayleigh numbers for the first ten modes are obtained using a variational method. The Landau method is then used to obtain the contribution to heat transfer. Results are presented for a wide range of rotational rates and compared with experimental data.
