Résumé

An analysis has been made of the motion and heat transfer resulting from laminar natural convection in a closed vertical annulus, the inner surface of which is at a higher temperature than the outer. A numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes and energy equations has been obtained.
The phenomena were found to be strongly dependent upon the Rayleigh number and the cavity geometry, and almost independent of the Prandtl number. Correlations for the overall Nusselt number for three different flow regimes have been obtained. A secondary flow, induced at a critical Rayleigh number and causing multicellular motion, has been studied.
