NOZZLE ARRAY SCALING EFFECTS ON THE THERMAL/HYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE OF LIQUID JET IMPINGEMENT COOLERS FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS
Sinopsis
In this study, we assess the thermal and fluidic performance of a scalable multi-jet liquid impingement cooling system based on unit cells with single inlet and multiple locally distributed outlets. The goal of the present work is to understand the thermal/hydraulic impact of the scaling of the number of nozzles and the nozzle diameters and to define the optimal thermal design. The nozzle array scaling trends based on unit cell computational fluid dynamics simulations are analyzed for three different constraint conditions: constant pressure drop across the impingement cooler, constant volumetric flow rate, and coefficient of performance COP. Finally, a trade-off chart with thermal resistance versus required pumping power for all cooler designs is proposed as an effective guideline for the selection of practical liquid jet impingement cooler designs.
