Sinopsis

Amorphous silicon gratings are widely used as controlling elements of radiation characteristics in solar energy absorbers and photovoltaic applications. Traditionally, the radiative performance of gratings can be regulated by changing ordered parameters, i.e., the period and the filling ratio. In this study, a new method to enhance light trapping efficiencies of adding disorder is proposed. Rigorous coupled-wave analysis and genetic algorithms are used in this design optimization. Results show that the absorption of gratings with two strips in one period is higher than that of the simple grating, which can be explained by the superposition principle. Enhancement in absorption by adding more strips in one period is useful, however the effect are not significant. It is verified that gratings with disorder can achieve better performance for solar energy absorbers.
