Sinopsis

A numerical investigation was conducted to explore the characteristics of fluid flow and heat transfer in a novel viscous micropump with the channel diameter of several hundred microns. The flow channel of the micropump is formed between two flat plates with a rotating shaft asymmetrically placed. Due to the non-equal viscous force and flow resistance in the sub-channels above and below the shaft, a net flowrate is produce. The fluid flow and heat transfer in different structures of a pump were investigated at a serial of Reynolds numbers. The heat transfer in the pumping region near the shaft was significantly enhanced due to the strongly flow disturbance caused by the rotational motion of the shaft.
