COMPUTATION OF DROPLET DISPERSIONS IN TURBULENT TWO-PHASE FLOWS USING THE GROUP SPLITTING APPROACH
Sinopsis
A group splitting approach has been developed for the modeling of turbulent sprays. Computations using this approach are efficient in CPU time and realistic in flow description. The group splitting approach uses droplet groups to represent the dispersed phase in a two-phase flow. Each group, which contains many droplets, has dimensions in 3-D space and grows up due to the turbulent droplet dispersion during its traveling. When a group grows to a critical size, it is split into smaller groups. The droplet distribution within a group is described by a Gaussian probability density function in 3-D dimensions. Computations using this approach can give accurate results, requiring only a small number of droplet groups to be traced. Consequently, the computational time is very efficient.
