Sinopsis

Information on heat transfer calculations in coil-wound heat exchangers are normally proprietary data for the manufacturers of such equipment.
A test plant for measurements of heat transfer and pressure drop at the tube side of a coil-wound LNG (liquefied natural gas) heat exchanger have been built. The test section consists of a curved, inclined tube. The tube diameter is 14.0 mm, the diameter of curvature 2.0 m and the inclination angle is 10°.
Measurements of local heat-transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops of propane, propane/methane and propane/ethane mixtures in single-phase and condensing two-phase flow have been carried out.
Correlations are compared with the measurements. Mixture effects on heal transfer are considered and calculation methods are suggested.
