Sinopsis

An account of the transient developing laminar flow, with unsteady wall solidification inside a circular pipe, is given. The existence of a moving solid-liquid interface that slowly advances towards the center of the pipe, makes the problem non-linear both, at the moving thermal boundary condition, as the phase-change progresses, and in the liquid momentum equation, where the initial fully-developed flow is continuously distorted due to the frozen layer growth. In this paper, the role of the important parameters is discussed and an asymptotic analysis is used to establish the solution of th,e full set of equations.
