Sinopsis

This paper aims at building up basic knowledge of boiling heat transfer and critical heat flux (CHF) in a confined narrow space. For this purpose, experiments were systematically performed for boiling of saturated water at atmospheric pressure between heated and unheated parallel rectangular plates. Tested variables specifying the narrow space were gap size, inclination angle, and peripheral conditions that the sides of narrow space are open or closed. On the basis of measurements and observations, boiling behaviors and heat transfer characteristics were discussed. Measured CHF under two different peripheral conditions were compared with predictions on the corresponding CHF models.
