Sinopsis

Helical coil type heat exchangers are an important group of yawed tube banks. Its tubes can be coiled all in the same direction or contrariwise on neighbouring tube cylinders. The latter tube arrangement promises a higher heat exchanger efficiency. The paper presents experimental data for heat transfer and pressure drop of a number of contrariwise inclined (cross-inclined) tube banks. For fundamental tests straight tubes were used. The flow angle φ was changed from φ=90° (cross flow) down to φ= 30°. Besides the thermalhydraulics of a complete helical coil type heat exchanger were investigated at a large scale test.
