Sinopsis

Heat transfer and pressure drop data for arrays of staggered plates aligned with air flows are presented. Two types of arrays have been investigated, one of uniform plate length, another of nonuniform plate length. The plate length and Reynolds number were varied parametrically. The experimental results indicate that, in the fully developed region, the j/f vs Re number relationships for uniform arrays are almost the same. For the nonuniform periodic arrays, the fully developed region of heat transfer is achieved from the second period on. In the range of Re number from 1 500 to 2 500, for the array in which a period is composed of two rows of plates and the length of the second plate is twice that of the first plate, the value of j/f is 8−13% higher than that of the uniform arrays.
