DEVELOPMENT OF HOT STREAKS IN HEAT EXCHANGERS
Sinopsis
The development of hot streaks in a helix type heat exchanger is considered. To treat the problem theoretically information is necessary about the mixing coefficient for enthalpy, Aq. In the previous work this coefficient is obtained by evaluation of experimental temperature profiles. The aim of the present paper is to demonstrate that Aq can be determined by flow quantities only. For this purpose the length scale parameter of the turbulence structure was measured by hot wire anemometry. This experimental result is introduced into the energy equation which is numerically solved. The theoretical temperature profiles exhibit good agreement with the experimental distribution obtained by tests carried out with air or helium in the range of Reynolds number 103 < Re < l,4 × 105.
