Sinopsis

The paper reports an experimental work on the bed to wall heat transfer in a 102 mm diameter fluidized bed operated in the bubbling and turbulent bed regimes at room temperature. A 25 mm diameter carbon steel rod, one end of which was flush with the bed wall while the other end was heated by hot water, with temperatures recorded at four equidistant points along its length, was used as the probe to measure the heat transfer coefficients. A dominant influence of bulk voidage on the heat transfer coefficient and a sharp rise in the Nu/(1−ε) value at the onset of turbulent fluidization were observed. The data have been compared with those of Mickley and Trilling, and Glicksman in the bubbling bed regime.
