Numerical investigation of radiative- conductive heat transfer in phase change of a semitransparent medium

Sinopsis

The effects of anisotropic scattering of radiation, reflection of radiation from interface due to different refractive indices for liquid and solid on melting (solidification) of a plane layer of a semitransparent medium between opaque surfaces have been investigated. The mathematical phase change model is a classical formulation of the Stefan problem. The results of temperature distribution calculations including spectral effects are presented for solidification of Al2O3 . The algorithm on the basis of mean fluxes method has been used for the numerical calculation of the radiative transfer equation.
