Sinopsis

Laminar convection heat transfer from a heated, slowly rotating horizontal cylinder to ambient air is examined analytically and experimentally. For rotational speeds below the critical speed for initiation of turbulence, laminar boundary layer equations are deduced and a parameter characterizing the influence of rotation established. Perturbation techniques and series truncation are used to solve the resulting elliptic equations. Interferometric studies of the temperature field are conducted and the results compared with the constant property theory.
