ON THE TRANSITION OF DBOPWISE−FILM CONDENSATION
Sinopsis
Two modes of condensing are well known, called dropwise and filmwise condensation corresponding to nucleate and film boiling. It is easy to recognize the existence of condensing curve being homologous to boiling curve, shown by heat flux versus temperature. In this paper some experiments on the transition of dropwise-filmwise-glacial condensation are made, using palmitic acid on a vertical circular copper plate, the rear side of which is magnified to large size in surface area and is vigorousely cooled by liquid nitrogen. The effects of noncondensable gases and superheat of steam on the condensing curve are considered. The typical fluctuations of surface temperature are measured in dropwise condensation.
