Heat Transfer Analysis of Blast Furnace Tuyere through CFD Simulation
Abstrakt
Preheated air, or hot blast, is introduced into a blast furnace through tuyeres. The operating conditions of a tuyere are extreme, with surrounding temperatures being as high as 2500K. As a result of these conditions, most tuyere failures are related to heat transfer conditions. Failure due to high radiation absorptivity, low thermal conductivity, and insufficient cooling are common. Failure of a tuyere can have significant effects on blast furnace operation. A furnace shutdown will be required, causing loss of production and ultimately higher costs. This paper focuses on the insight gained from the heat transfer analysis of a tuyere. This analysis has been simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The possible mechanisms of failure due to heat transfer are discussed. Using parametric study methodology, the sensitivity of heat transfer to some significant variables has been investigated. Suggestions are provided for improving the tuyere reliability and life.
