Estimation of Blood Perfusion Rate and Its Temperature Dependency in Human Abdominal Area under Heating Condition

Abstrakt

To understand the bioheat transfer process in living tissue, knowledge of the blood perfusion rate and its temperature dependency is essential. The objectives of this study are to establish the estimation method of the blood perfusion rate by the heat flux measurement and to evaluate the temperature dependency and individual differences on the blood perfusion rate. The abdominal heating controller was used for heating the abdominal area. The heating disk, consisting of gold-coated copper, was 100 mm in diameter. A heat flux sensor was installed between the heating disk of the abdominal heating controller and the abdominal area. The time variation of heat flux and surface temperature were recorded using a data logger. Based on the onedimensional bioheat transfer equation proposed by Pennes, the relationship among the blood perfusion rate, surface temperature, and surface heat flux was analytically derived. Additionally, a two-dimensional axisymmetric model was solved in order to check the applicability of the one-dimensional analytical solution. The general relationship between the one-dimensionality of the temperature distribution and the size of the heating area was discussed. By measuring 14 human subjects, the positive correlation between the heat flux and surface temperature was confirmed. The blood perfusion rate of each subject was estimated. The blood perfusion rate showed positive correlation with the surface temperature as well as the heat flux. The effects of individual physiological differences on the value of the blood perfusion rate and temperature dependency were discussed. The temperature dependency shown in this study was compared with the Q10 relationship.
