Abstrakt

The double diffusive phenomenon of smoke (hot gas-mixture) in a horizontal shear flow was numerically studied by a finite difference method. Calculations were carried out at the Prandtl number Pr=0.71, the Lewis number Le=5, the buoyancy ratio N=1, the Rayleigh number Ra=107 or 108 and the Peclet number Pe=Re·Pr=500 to 2000. The main shear flow was laminar but the flow of smoke became complicated owing to the double diffusion. The smoke is bifurcated downstream into downward and upward plumes. Then a large amount of heavy target gas drops on the bottom and a little amount of target gas ascends with thermal plume. An ascending plume develops owing to the thermal buoyancy along the peak of smoke and two descending plumes develop owing to the solutal buoyancy along the right-and-left sides of smoke.
