Abstrakt

A numerical investigation is undertaken of free convection within a rectangular porous enclosure with internal heat generation. Attention is focused primarily on the determination of the critical Rayleigh number for the onset of unsteady convection and the description of the mechanism causing the unsteady destabilisation of steady convection. It is also shown that the flow may become unsymmetrical when the aspect ratio is sufficently high.
