Abstrakt

The enhancement of heat transfer can be achieved by using longitudinal vortex generators. A theoretical analysis reveals that the disruption of the thermal boundary layer due to the vorticity induced swirling motion is the primary cause of such enhancement. The vortex generators may be of triangular or rectangular planform or any combination of them. The present investigation compares the performance of two type of vortex generators, namely, the delta winglet pair and the rectangular winglet pair. The mean Nusselt number for the channel showed increases as large as 41 percent using the delta winglet pair at an angle of attack of 55°. The mean Nusselt number for the channel can be augmented by 38 percent using the rectangular winglet pair at an angle of attack of 45°.
