Abstrakt

The relative thermo-hydraulic performance of square and circular ducts with twisted tape inserts is studied in this paper. The results show that the square tubes perform better than the circular ducts for fluids with higher Prandtl number, irrespective of the operating Reynolds number and twist ratio. Significantly better performance is observed even for air under certain conditions. The performance parameters generally show an optimal operating condition. The Reynolds number, corresponding to which the optima occurs, increases with the increase in twist ratio, but, decreases with the increase in Prandtl number.
