Abstrakt

A numerical study is made of flow and heat transfer from a heated rectangular block placed in a channel. The flow Ui at the channel inlet contains a single-frequency pulsation, Ui = U0 [l + Asin(2πfFτ)]. The fluid temperature at the entrance is TC and the surfaces of the block are at uniform temperature TH. The channel walls are adiabatic. The time-dependent two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically by using finite volume methods. The numerical results are analyzed to scrutinize the effects of principal nondimensional parameters, i.e., the Reynolds number Re, and the Strouhal number SrF based on the pulsation frequency. The recirculation zone behind the block is seen to be affected appreciably as SrF increases. This change in the structure of recirculation zone has a direct impact on the heat transport characteristics from the heated block. Behavior of local heat transfer properties is examined by utilizing Fourier-series representations of the numerical results.
