Abstrakt

The central problem in radiation thermometry is inferring target temperature from spectral radiance observations under conditions when its emissivity is unknown or variable and in the presence of irradiation from its surroundings. Dual-wavelength and multispectral emissivity compensation methods are reviewed and their application to aluminum alloy and steel galvannealing processes are evaluated. Approaches utilizing auxiliary devices in addition to a radiometer which aim to reduce emissivity effects are overviewed. The need for improved temperature measurement technology in primary metals, petrochemical furnaces, and semiconductor processing are discussed.
