Abstrakt

A direct numerical simulation of heat and fluid flow in a fluid saturated porous medium has been conducted, solving the full Navier-Stokes equations at pore scale. Collections of square rods, circular rods and spheres, arranged in a regular pattern, are proposed as two- and three-dimensional models of porous structure. Spatial variations of the velocity, pressure and temperature fields within one unit segment of the porous structure are resolved by means of a finite difference method, exploiting the periodical boundary conditions. These detailed spatial variations at a pore scale are translated to predict the macroscopic hydrodymanic and thermal behaviours, and to determine the constants in the existing empirical laws, without any empiricism.
