Abstrakt

The authors present the results of an experimental investigation of the heat transfer in a liquid-solid packed bed reactor where an exothermic, temperature sensitive reaction A → B takes place. The biocatalyst (supported by the solid) becomes inactive as soon as the temperature becomes too high. Kinetics of reaction have been studied in a small size isotherm reactor. Heat transfer has been investigated separately in a larger packed column; it is well described by a homogeneous one parameter model (radial effective conductivity). Measurements have been carried out in a pilot reactor where the biochemical reaction takes place. The solution of coupled heal and mass balance equations allows to predict the temperature profiles in the reactor with a satisfactory agreement with experimental results.
