Abstrakt

An examination is made of convection, induced by applied thermal and solutal gradients inclined to the vertical, in a shallow horizontal layer. The horizontal component of these gradients induces a Hadley circulation, which becomes unstable when the vertical components are sufficiently large. A linear stability analysis is carried out, for the case of rigid conducting horizontal boundaries, in terms of horizontal and vertical thermal Rayleigh numbers, RH and RV, respectively, and the solutal equivalents. The differential equation system is solved using a direct Galerkin approximation.
