Abstrakt

A numerical study has been conducted to determine the aspect and radius ratio effects on the laminar natural convection heat transfer characteristics and flow patterns in a vertical annulus. A heated inner cylinder is considered within a stationary concentric outer cylinder with horizontal adiabatic endplates. Solutions were obtained by solving the Navier-Stokes and energy equations cast in the stream function - vorticity form. For selected Gr and Pr values, solutions were obtained by varying the aspect ratio Γ, and the radius ratio η independently. For a given value of Gr and η, the heat transfer is found to be maximum when Γ = 1, at all values of Pr considered. The effectiveness of the transport of heat by natural convection is diminished continuously as η is increased while keeping Γ constant.
