A REFINED MECHANISTIC CRITICAL HEAT FLUX MODEL FOR UPFLOW BOILING AT LOW QUALITIES

Abstrakt

A mechanistic critical heat flux (CHF) model for upflow boiling at low qualities has been developed. The model mathematically derived from a mass, energy and momentum balance. This model had two empirical constants related to the void fraction and the thickness of the bubbly layer and required some constitutive models. From the previous validation of the model, it was recognized that some model refinements were required as focused on constitutive models. In this paper, the sub-cooled flow boiling model previously adopted is mainly refined. Another refinement is forwarded to relax the model restrictions. The validity of the refined model is investigated through the comparison of the predicted and the measured CHF data of water and cryogenic fluids in uniformly heated tubes. The comparison shows the reasonable agreement between the model predictions and the extensive experimental data.
