Abstrakt

The primary objective of much of the experimental work on turbulent free convective flows in closed cavities, carried out in the last few years, has been to provide data for the validation/development of numerical prediction codes. The majority of the publications arising from such work have dealt with distributions of heat transfer, temperature and velocity. These data are useful for the validation of codes but are not especially helpful in the development of the codes. This paper reports data on wall shear stress and some of the turbulence transport terms which are often referred to as turbulence stresses, in the belief that these quantities will be particularly valuable in code development.
The paper concludes with a brief review of the total extent of the experimental data which are now available for this problem.
