Abstrakt

A finite element model is presented for solving non-linear heat conduction and thermal stress problems in casting. The adaptive refinement technique is used to track the moving front of the phase change zone or the regions of higher flux gradient. The elasto-viscoplastic constitutive relationship is used for modelling thermal stresses in casting during the cooling process. An example is presented to demonstrate the validity of the model in pressurized die casting.
