Abstrakt

This paper presents the role of the flow patterns in two phase gas liquid flow in pipes as well as the methods used to predict the flow pattern transitions. Major milestones in the development of the main ideas concerning the prediction of the flow pattern are reviewed in a "historical" perspective.
The recent model that is termed here "the unified model" is selected to be presented here in detail as our preferred model for the calculation of the now patterns. Unlike most previous models, which dealt primarily with the horizontal or the vertical cases this model yields a flow pattern prediction which is valid for any angle of inclination. This eliminates the need to use models which are restricted to specific angles of inclination. The results of the unified model, comparison with experimental data and other approaches to modelling are presented and discussed.
