TURBULENT FREE CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER FROM VERTICAL PARALLEL PLATES
Abstrakt
Turbulent free convection heat transfer to air from vertical parallel plates (height, 5000 mm and spacing Ð’ of 40, 50, 100 and 200 mm), composed of an adiabatic plate and a plate with uniform heat generation, were experimentally studied. The present turbulent Nusselt number near the channel outlet can be well approximated by,
Nub =0.4[(Grb*PrBL)½ /X]0.484
As Ð’ decreases, this equation has a wider range of application, which includes the greater part of the turbulent region for Ð’ at 50 mm. Furthermore, the measured turbulence quantity profiles from mixed convection to free convection clearly explain the heat transfer characteristics.
