Abstrakt

Wall temperature variations before and at the CHF condition are measured for a subcooled flow boiling system. Applying the measured wall temperature history, the surface heat flux and the surface temperature are computed by a numerical method for inverse problems of transient heat conduction. The results show that the wall temperature excursions at the CHF condition are composed of the temperature fluctuations accompanied with periodical passing of the large coalescent bubbles close to the surface, and a subsequent sharp temperature rise under a film boiling state. Heat transfer characteristics for the overheating and quenching periods in the wall temperature fluctuation region and the wall superheats at the minimum heat flux point of film boiling are presented.
