ACCURATE EVALUATION OF RADIATIVE DIRECT-EXCHANGE AREAS FOR RECTANGULAR GEOMETRIES
Abstrakt
A previously published procedure for accurate evaluation of radiative direct-exchange areas for pairs of rectangles is extended and applied to produce formulae in the form of sums of single integrals for surface to volume and volume to volume exchange areas in rectangular geometries.
The new formulae and those previously available have been employed to produce accurate direct-exchange area values for combinations of squares and cubes. A limited selection of these are presented in tabular form for a range of physical separations and optical dimensions.
By using the formulae, it is now possible to calculate direct-exchange area values for rectangular geometries to any prescribed degree of accuracy. The zone method can thus be applied with confidence and in the knowledge that the overall radiative energy balance will be satisfied, and that errors will no longer arise as a result of inaccuracies in the exchange area values employed.
