EFFECT OF ROTATION ON TRANSITION IN A HEATED RECTANGULAR DUCT
Abstrakt
Measurements were made to determine the effect of rotational Grashof number on transition from laminar to turbulent flow in a heated rectangular duct. The experiments were carried out with air, where the duct rotated about an axis parallel to itself. Buoyancy and Coriolis forces have an important influence on stability and transition in the heated parallel rotating duct configuration. The measured values for Nusselt number indicate that rotation stabilizes the flow, causing the transition Reynolds number to increase with Grashof number. Comparisons with transition data for other flow configurations suggest that different types of body forces may each affect transition in a different way.
