Abstrakt

The conductivity of a particle-air mixture was measured as the bulk material was sheared in an annular Couette shear cell. The resulting effective conductivity can be decomposed into a configuration-al component that is a function of the density of the mixture, and a dynamic component arising from the agitation of the mixture caused by the shearing of the bulk material. The dynamic augmentation in the conductivity is linearly proportional to the shear rate and appears to be relatively independent of the density.
