Abstrakt

A mathematical analysis of heat transfer in double-pipe heat exchangers, based on first principles rather than on the use of heat transfer coefficients, is generalized to include laminar or turbulent flows, various geometrical configurations, and both co-current and counter-current operation. Practical aspects concentrate on accurate predictions of overall heat transfer rates, and include consideration of a quantity called the "Effectiveness Coefficient" for this purpose. Procedures for the interpretation of experimental data, derived from the analysis, are also suggested.
