Abstrakt

Local phenomena are reported for flow boiling of water in a vertical channel of cross-section 2 × 1 mm at a mass flux of 57 kg/m2s. Measurements of pressure, temperature, heat flux and heat transfer coefficient fluctuations and simultaneous video recordings are compared with previous observations at higher mass fluxes. At the lower mass flux, confined bubbles formed and pressure pulses propagated along the channel in much the same way as before but there were changes in the nature of the accompanying fluctuations in wall temperature. Even at low heat flux, upstream fluctuations of a fraction of a degree were amplified to 10 K at the exit from the channel, indicating transient dryout of the wall.
