Abstrakt

The distribution of the local heat transfer rates around a heated horizontal circular cylinder in a transverse sound field has been studied experimentally. Heat transfer measurements were made in an anechoic chamber using optical methods at fairly large values of λ = R/Grl/4 (ν/ω)1/2 where effects are expected to be quite strong. While practical experimental conditions do not provide a perfect match for asymptotic theoretical studies, comparisons strongly favor the view that the influence of a sound field on steady convection is applied through the Reynolds stresses associated with the oscillating flow as assumed in analyses.
