HEAT TRANSFER NEAR THE CRITICAL POINT
Abstrakt
Heat transfer near the critical point is taken to include boiling just below the critical pressure and convection just above. Some aspects of the possible relationship between homogeneous nucleation and film boiling at high sub-critical pressures are discussed, and the effects of flow direction on boiling in pipes as the critical pressure is approached are illustrated.
Buoyancy effects make forced convection at supercritical pressure very sensitive to flow direction, and existing conditions are critically examined in the light of these effects. Progress towards the elucidation of mechanisms that govern convection under conditions of extreme property variation is also reviewed.
