Abstrakt

The results of an investigation into natural convection heat transfer using a heated, horizontal cylinder within an air-filled enclosure of square cross-section are presented. Of particular concern was the effect upon heat transfer of the introduction of ventilation into the enclosure. Variable width ventilation slots were available in both the roof and floor of the enclosure. Three cylinder diameters were tested giving enclosure width/cylinder diameter ratios of 2·2 to 15·7. Certain combinations of roof and floor slot areas produced an enhanced convection effect giving cylinder temperatures lower than that of the isolated cylinder.
