THE EFFECT OF POLYMER ADDITIVES ON NUCLEATE BOILING
Abstrakt
Purpose of this work was to examine experimentally the effect of polymeric additives — of the Polyox and Separan series — on pool and flow boiling. In particular, their effect on solution properties (surface tension and viscosity) and on nucleation - related quantities (bubble diameter and frequency of departure) was investigated, in conduction with the heat flux, q", between hot surface and bulk liquid.
It was found that q" increases substantially in the presence of such additives, and this effect is attributed to the peculiar state of affairs that exists in the superheated liquid layer surrounding the bubbles during their formation and growth.
