Abstract

Heat transfer enhancement in an asymmetrically heated rectangular duct due to suspending cylinder as a passive turbulators is investigated. The important factors considered in this study are, aspect ratio, pitch, size and distance of passive turbulators from the heated absorber plate and flow Reynolds number ranging from 3000 to 15000 selected based on practical use. A number of suspended thin cylinders are mounted near the heat transfer surface to exploit von-Karman effect, produced due to vortex shedding behind the cylinders, in order to obtain heat transfer enhancement by disturbing boundary layer on the heated surface.
