Abstract

The evaporation of a spherically symmetric fuel droplet consisting of a core of fuel surrounded by a shell made up of a more volatile fuel has been investigated using a numerical model. The outer shell consists of n-hexane with inner cores of n-octane and n-heptane of different relative sizes. It was found that the core had a negligible effect on the evaporation of the shell. The shell evaporation however affected the surface temperature of the droplet and therefore the evaporation of the core fuel.
