Abstract

Experiments have been performed with Newton's alloy and water droplet in a stable thermally stratification to avoid premature boiling in the injection nozzle. Dynamic behaviour of two-phase bubble evaporating in a molten alloy was clearly observed by using high-frame rate neutron radiography. Measurements of drag coefficient of a single two-phase bubble showed that the relationship between the rising velocity of a single two-phase bubble in the molten Newton's alloy was not much different from that for an ordinary one. The rate of growth of a two-phase bubble was measured to determine the interfacial heat transfer coefficient in a molten alloy-water system. An empirical equation of overall heat transfer coefficient was presented for practical application.
